Crazy or Amazing?

Post by Mark Hargrove »

This approach and landing is both amazing and insane at the same time.

and so is this one:

...but this one -- well, you decide.

Have only seen the 3rd one so far. Looks insane from the outside, but the pilot appeared to know what the airplane could do and used it to its full potential. The takeoff and landing were things of beauty. That uphill landing was right on the money. He/she had the energy management down pat.

I've looked up the Sportsman STOL kit that the 3rd video mentions. It's a retrofit for a bunch of different models of Cessna singles. Lowers the stall speed on the Cessna 185 to just above 40 kts, so these approaches are less-crazy than then look -- but this guy is still one heck of a pilot.

In the third video, pilots is having more control and it seems amazing to me.
