Does disconnecting cancel all flightplans / clearances?

If I'm flying on pilot edge and I disconnect, either intentionally or due to a sim crash, are all my filed flightplans and clearances automatically cancelled? Do I need to file a new flightplan to continue where I left off, or and I just reconnect again?

Route amendments are not saved, and neither is your squawk code. Tell the controllers what your assigned code was, and then verify the validity of your clearance. Connections dropped for more than 30 minutes or across a controller shift change may require you to pick up a new clearance.

The most recent version of your route should be saved, and it should last for 2 hours after you disconnect. The assigned squawk code is not retained as Harold said. They will either assign a code that matches what you're currently squawking (for X-Plane), or in the case of FSX/P3D, you're actually going to be squawking VFR (despite what the panel says) until you next change the code, so in those cases, expect a new code from ATC.

So, if you disconnect in midflight, you can reconnect shortly after, get a new squawk code (in most cases) and be off to the races.

Thanks HRutila and Keith! - was away from my sim for the holidays and didn't see your reply until now.

Would it be a problem to try and re-connect / restart a flight while in the air? Or, should you always give up and restart at the origin airport?

You can restart in the air. The sooner, the better.
