Communication loss

Post by golfpilot »

I was just flying from Hawthorne to Camarillo. It was a weird flight. I requested the Vor 26 approach into CMA, While I was flying the approach I think I lost two way communication. Because the approach controller didn't have me switch to tower. I couldn't get a hold of approach so I swapped to tower and tower I didn't get a response but after about 30 seconds I heard another controller voice talking on another frequency. I didn't really know what to do, I probably should have squawked 7600. I didn't but I think the controller knew. After I flew around the pattern, she cleared me to land. I never got a response from her when I tried to talk.

Anybody else experience this?

Hello,

I was the approach controller working your flight. At some point during the approach you were disconnected from the network. Apparently this was temporary and you reconnected shortly thereafter. This happens occasionally due to various internet hiccups.

If you know it's happened let the controller know when you reconnect.

Thanks Peter,
I kept trying to talk to the tower frequency and although I could hear her, she couldn't hear me. This is probably my own hardware issue with my mic.
Sorry to be difficult.

I feel really bad that you controllers have to deal with my hardware incompetence. Just lost communication switching from approach to tower again and realized it was my mic muting.
Thanks for dealing with it, it has to be frustrating on your end.

That is a real world scenario! I was once renting a 172 in KHNL and had a terrible time figuring out the comms stack and was calling and calling ground without a response. Eventually I got them on speaker and they had heard all of my calls. Luckily there were really "aloha" about it all. I don't have many flying stories, but when I do they are embarrassing. 8-)
