Corrupted gauges or something?

Post by sellener777 »

Various aircraft I have are loading with graphics issues. They have "lines," through many gauges or gauges/needles partially missing. I have the steam version of xp10.35.

I had this issue on a precious version of xp and never figured it out except to complletley uninstall xp and start from scratch (lots of fun). When that occurred I tried updating drivers to video card, and uninstalling scenary wit no success. Very frustrated...ahhhhhh

Cant identify anything I did differently, other than noticed steam updated me to 10.35 unknowingly. So this issue (second time around) may have started after steam updated to 10.35.

I was pissed enough to uninstall xp again. And after 5 hours of redowloading off steam it appeared it didn't even wipe my xp clean.....(all my aircraft and scenary and what not was still there) and of course the grahpics issues persist.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would take a screenshot and send to xplane support. I don't think I've heard of that one before.

Oh man, youve never heard of it.....im really out of luck! Lol

Ill get a bug report off to them asap.

Question:

If after sending bug report i want to start over with xplane (as is usually a quicker fix). Is their a special way to uninstall all my xplane stuff? I did it through "remove all local content) via steam, but after 5 hours of redownloading, all my original xplane files still exist?

If i uninstall from program manager, it autodirects to stram uninstall(remove local content)

How do i wipe it clean?

Thx all

X-plane does NOT install like typical Windows software. X-plane does not use the registry to store program and installation variables. If you need to "re-boot" X-plane the typical/best method is to delete the X-Plane preference files. Restart X-plane and it will be re-created from default settings.

How to delete X-plane preference files:
http://wiki.x-plane.com/Deleting_the_Preferences

The how to says X-Plane 9 but it also applies to X-Plane 10. Note, it will be necessary to re-map all of the X-Plane physical devices (joy stick, throttle, rudder pedals ect) and rendering options. When increasing the rendering options do it in stages modifying a single parameter at a time. Why? Because often video tearing is from a shortage of VRAM and/or exceeding the capacities of the video card.

Recommend that you update to the latest video drivers for your card if not already done so.

What other X-plane add on's are you using? The post does not state which aircraft are giving you problems. The general recommendation is to attempt to re-create using the most basic install possible. Then mix in the add on's trying again after each add on. Also. It's important to attempt to re-create the problem using DEFAULT aircraft. X-Plane support will ask this before they will accept a bug report.

I also recommend that you create an X-plane BETA/test install. Having a Beta install for testing has saved me a ton of time. With modern hard disk drives having the duplicate X-plane folder isn't all that bad. Creating a Beta/test X-Plane is as simple as copying the entire X-plane directory to a new directory and launching the X-Plane exe from there. This gives an easy way to test new Beta versions of X-Plane and add on's without putting the main install at risk.

Another useful thing to remember is any time you are reporting a problem or issue with X-Plane, please ATTACH a copy of your log.txt. There may be something in there to tell us what is going on. X-Plane generates a log.txt file every time you start it up and it closes it when you close the X-Plane app. You can find the log.txt in the base X-Plane folder. We can only guess at the problem unless you include the log.txt that was generated during the session in which the problem occurred. Laminar will ask you for this file, too, when filing a bug report.

When you use the "Delete Local Files" option in Steam, it will only delete files that it has created. Any plugins, scenery, or aircraft that you manually installed won't be removed. You'll have to browse to the install directory and remove them yourself.

I think wmburns' method is better, though.
