Well my advice from personal experience is - you need to be patient, otherwise overburning is behind the corner. It's not a game, where you figure out things in two evenings. It takes time to become a pilot. Yes, it's a lot of material, but get yourself a notebook, write things down while watching the workshops, make notes after every flight, observe others. Ask things (before researching at least a little bit). That is the only way to go. If you won't find the patience to watch 2 hour videos, you will struggle.

Everyone nowdays has this "I need it now" itch. I have it as well. Just try to recognize it, acknowledge it, and keep moving forward :)

Huge props to all of you for the support...

The hobby of flight sim has its own reward but being part of this awesome community seems like another whole level.

I am a researcher by nature, just love to seek out solutions to questions or learn to do what I couldn't do before..looks like I found my match!

Chris, my next move will be with Simcopilot as that is the last step for me to fly with Dad. That notwithstanding I need to get past some basics before I start to help out another. I will be sure to try a flight with you one day though...thanks for the generous offer to a complete stranger!

Later tonight I will try some more pattern work, I think off line though as I continue to struggle with alt control.

Welcome to the network. Pattern work is one of the hardest things you can do in the sim. Leave it until last. If you're struggling with altitude control, takeoff, get to a couple of thousand feet and then practice altitude control.

Pattern work (in real life) is where a vast list of skills, which have all been practiced in isolation up until that point, are expected to come together. It's made harder in the sim by the fact that it requires the ability to judge your position relative to points which aren't in your immediate field of view. In the real world, no problem, you turn your head to see what you need to see. In the sim, not so much. For that reason, I'd leave pattern work alone until you have mastered many other things first.
