Assigned unexpected runway for the winds

Hi,

I was flying VFR to General Fox (KWJF) today approaching from the south. Winds were 07013G19KT at the airfield, so I was expecting right base or straight in for runway 6. Tower gave me left downwind for 24 instead. I readback, entered the pattern and landed without an issue.

Given the winds, I would have much preferred to land runway 6. So my newbie question is: Did the controller mistakenly assign me the wrong runway or is this specific to the operation at the field? If not, could I have requested runway 6 anyway? If so, should I asked him to confirm 24 was correct?

Most likely the controller missed the winds (the normal landing runway at WJF is 24).

In this case a simple "we'd like runway 6" will solve the issue. You should have been given runway 6.
