Freq change not working with Carenado 1900

Post by xpga »

This was my second flight (first flight had no issues) with Carenado 1900 for X-Plane on PE and the frequncy change on COM1 was having some issue. It was tuning to correct frequency in the aircraft but on PE I was tuned to the same controller. For example, after taking off from Oxnard, although I changed my com1 freq to 124.7 i.e. Pt. Mugu Departure, I was still talking to the same Oxnard tower controller. I had to disconnect from PE mid-flight.

Has anyone encountered this issue? I see only one post viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4259

To be clear you were still talking to Oxnard Tower not just having the same actual person being departure as well?

Hmm, there was a server problem a few days ago, but I'm assuming it happened sooner than that? If its like Chevy said and its the same controller, he/she could be working multiple positions. If the controller said you're still on tower, and the PE Live Map says you haven't changed, it was probably either a server or client issue. I heard this guy trying to get ground from Santa Maria a while ago, but controller didn't. After a few calls, I get a radio check, "loud and clear". Hmmm... "well sir, there's another aircraft calling". Apparently, the controller couldn't hear the guy, but he could hear everyone else. He restarted his computer (i.e. his client) and everything worked fantabulosly. If this isn't a frequent occurrence, I would suspect its a glitch of some sort. Could also have been the aircraft, although unlikely given its not the first flight. Could you have possibly switched over to com 2 mic (which was on Oxnard tower by chance) and tried switching com 1? (trust me.... its happened..... a few times...)

Oxnard tower and Departure were different persons during this flight. And after switchover to departure, I was still taking to the tower person, but my radio showed I was tuned into departure. Even the controller confirmed that she sees my radio tuned to departure on her screen but the voice was going to her and not the departure person.

Ok, I was able to get the flight going after disconnecting and connecting to PE several times until I was able to hear the different controllers as expected. So there is some glitch which surfaces sometimes.

Hmm, that's interesting. If the controller could see you switched, I'd suspect its a server issue. But without an intricate understanding of PE's radio system (which won't happen), I don't think anyone but Keith and Peter can guess at what happened.

Actually, that brings up an off-topic question - Do controllers get an explanation of the radio system, or do they get the same version that we get on the scope streams from Peter?

Trouble shooting using the live map

Post by wmburns »

As a trouble shooting method it is possible to see what frequency PilotEdge servers think you are tuned to. Go to the live map.

http://map.pilotedge.net/map/

Find your plane on the right hand list. Check the box. This will center the map on the selected target. Then click on the selected target on the map. This will bring up an information pop up which has the radio frequency that is on the PiliotEdge servers. This could help in trouble shooting.

The freq information is available on the map without any clicking. Simply look at the list of planes on the right hand side of the map. The map updates every 10 seconds or so.

Yes, as I mentioned my freq. listed on map or as seen by the controller was correctly tuned. My voice transmission though got stuck with the previous controller with whom I was talking before freq. change.

xpga, sorry about that, I forgot the details of your original post and was just replying to the point that was brought up in the very last message.

Regarding your issue, we have seen it happen before, we're not sure of the underlying cause yet.
