Real World IFR has a whole section on lost comms if you're interested.

wmburns, hopefully your confusion regarding when to start executing lost comms has been resolved. :)

Regarding using a non-certified device, from a practical standpoint, whether you go direct MUSEL with a non-approved GPS or you stay on the initial heading until joining SXC R-061 inbound, they're going to give you a wide berth in terms of traffic separation. The difference between the two is only a handful of miles over the water, so don't fret too much over which one to do.

Thanks for the explanations and clarifications everyone. Keith, had been considering RW IFR, but chickened out during the promotional period. Had no idea it was going to be $200 (would've won me over ;) ). Will probably reconsider once/if I start my RW training.

If it helps, it's $179 if you are logged in to the PE site and you have a card on file. If you're seeing $199, then you're either not logged in, or you don't have a card on file.
