GROUND to TOWER handoff question

Post by mmerelles »

A situation i experienced myself several times, would like to learn what's the right procedure:

Suppose you are parked at KSNA east side on a jet, thus you will be assigned 20R when requesting taxi. i.e. GROUND tells you 20R taxi via Alpha Lima hold short 20L
Once you are holding at 20L at Lima:
do you contact ground for further instructions because you are not at 20R yet? or do you contact tower? and if tower... should be east tower because you are holding at 20L east side? or should be west tower because no matter you are holding 20L east side, you are looking for 20R departure?

thanks

You contact tower on 126.8 since 20R is your departure runway. No need for ground to hand you off. So as soon as you stop at 20L on Lima, change to 126.8, call ready to depart, and they will tell you to cross 20L and clear for takeoff on 20R.
