Idea: Alternate Bravos KSFO and KPHX

Post by stevekirks »

Idea:

Pick a given week of the month, and for that week only, KSFO is "turned off" in PE and replaced with KPHX. It might add some spice/variety and wouldn't necessarily add too much to the controller's workload, since only one "alternate Bravo" is live at any give time.

Thoughts?

Also--would PE ever charge for a special event? Example: Pay the low low price of $19.99 per user for a one time "fly into Aspen" event

Hang in there, we are working on it.

One-time event is a non-starter. There is significant time that is required to open an airport, even if it's only going to be used for one day.

We're well aware that there is a desire to expand. Despite what might be a perceived lack of progress, there are detailed plans. "Rotation" of fields is something that exists in the expansion plan.

It surprises me that Florida is not considered. It's one of the major flight training areas in the US, and has an interesting mix of good and frightening weather. I know it's mostly flat, but there are lovely areas of scenery for the VFR pilot.

It does have loads of airports, which is what PE needs. Class B in Miami, Orlando and Tampa, several very busy Class C and heaps of Class D - plus many, many uncontrolled fields. Flying VFR up the coast from Miami, you can speak to one controller after another. Plenty of exercise for PE. Also, enough scope for a lot of IFR work.
Lots of schools for Keith to try and "invade"!

I'm not ready to comment on specifics, but expansion plans are in motion. And yes, we have considered major areas such as Florida for flight training. Discussions (and more, in fact) are already afoot.

This is an open forum and people are welcome to discuss it, but to be honest, every idea that has been posted was already thoroughly discussed...years ago :) We simply haven't been in a position to expand up until recently.

We know where the heavy concentrations of r/w pilots are, we know where flight training takes place, and we know that everyone would love their home area and/or the ORBX areas to be covered.

As I said, stand by, we're on it :)

It'll be central Wisconsin, right? Show of hands for central Wisconsin? Nobody? Ok.
