I was flying my V1 and following a fellow PE user. He was able to send me a message thru PE somehow and it showed up at the top of my screen in XPlane.
I would have loved to reply but had no idea how.
All it said was Message from PilotEdge and then their message. The only reason I knew it was the plane in front of me..... is because he said so. Hahahah
TIA

In game message from other pilot
Re: In game message from other pilot
Probably an inadvertent message from the controller - they have the capability but from my understanding they don't use it for commercial purposes. What did the message say? I'm almost certain pilots don't have the ability to send each other messages. Did the pilot in front actually say that he sent it? What time was it? Could it have been a message through another source such as Skype or something that was running in the background?

Nope i'm sure this was a message from within XPlane.
It was the same window as you would get for an ATIS message. It said. " Message from PilotEdge " Then he asked If I could see him since first time users on PE couldn't see all the aircraft. Or something to that effect.
Then when I finished my circuits I parked on the East ramp next to him and I got another message asking if I was still there.

Huh, I'm a goose then. One of the PE tech guys will probably answer by the caw of the rooster tomorrow.

Re: In game message from other pilot
The X-Plane client has the capability to receive PM's. This was implemented so ATC could send one-way messages as needed.
The FSX client was built from a licensed application which had the ability to send and receive PMs. We never took out the sending functionality, but we also didn't publicize that it was there. My guess is that your friend was familiar with the client upon which the FSX PE client was based, looked up your callsign, then sent you a PM.

Cool, PilotEdge is so realistic that it even simulates the hacking of ACARS messages

So I figured it out and it's stupid easy.
[post removed] Mod note: this isn't a feature we're looking to promote since X-Plane users can't reply. It'll cause more confusion than it's worth.
