traffic for ForeFlight

Post by Keith Smith »

Was going to fly tonight but I had an coding itch that needed to be scratched. A quick search revealed a document showing the protocol specification for sending GPS, traffic and AHARS data to ForeFlight. Since X-Plane already sends GPS and AHRS data to ForeFlight, I just needed to add the traffic portion. I'm happy/stunned to report that it worked on the very first try (after I remembered to turn Traffic on within ForeFlight!)

So, this will be something to look forward to. It also opens the door for TCAS implementations for those with custom 'pits, too.

This is really good news Keith!

Flight factor 757 / 777 support it as long as i understand and having traffic alert on the screens will be just great :D

It's likely that their TCAS just runs off the xplane multiplayer, which we no longer use (this way you can still do glider tows, drops from B-52s and even native multiplayer if you want, all while connected to PilotEdge). When I say custom TCAS, I mean something like SimAvionics.

If the FlightFactor team have an API for the TCAS then I'd be happy to work with them.

This is great news!!
I approached Foreflight to see if they were going to add this feature - they said no. Glad to see that it can still be done. I will hold my breathe.

I take it this won't work for the Prepar3D users? Or maybe it will. I know that when I use FSXFlight with WingProX is shows a x-plane connection.

The modifications are to the X-Plane plugin, so they're not relevant to P3D. Jacob Eiting published FSX Flight for FSX/P3D which already relays traffic to Foreflight if I'm not mistaken.

I'm going to guess that this type of integration is not available on iFlightplanner?

http://www.iflightplanner.com/Features/

I like to use this as I do not want to pay for a Foreflight sub, covers most what I like.

No idea. Can you find out if they have an API for receiving traffic information?

On it...

Was more curious if you or anyone else is familiar with this product? Without knowing much about Foreflight this one seems to be quite extensive with features. Great for simmers as it does have a free version which Foreflight to my knowledge does not. It also integrates nicely with Xplane

If I used it more I would happy pay but I find I have enough screen real estate for charts and really need to stay away from the crutch of watching where you are on a virtual map. It must be a real handy tool in a RW cockpit though...
