I-06: Full Approaches - Question

Post by chopowski »

Hi, I am looking in the AFD at the TEC routes for the flight below, but do not see any reference to the routes listed below on the PE Website. AFD shows the appropriate route to be LAXN55 (for P & Q class). Is it incorrect to use LAXN55 as the route on my flightplan? I couldn't find reference the the routes below in the AFD.

Thanks, Russ

The TEC routes which depart from LAX are a bit unusual because they begin with a specific departure procedure but because the departure procedures can be updated on a different schedule from the TEC routes, they don't tell you the complete name of the departure procedure. For jets, the TEC route shows LAXX DP, which as of now would be the LAXX SEVEN departure procedure. When the textual description for the I-06 was written, the LAXX SIX was the current DP.

This link (http://www.myflightroute.com/tecsub.php ... X&end=KSNA) shows the currently valid TEC routes from KLAX to KSNA for all classifications.

Hi, that link takes me to the PQ route of LAXN55. So my question is if I use that in my flightplan is that acceptable for this rating? I am still confused as the request from ATC this morning was that I should file SLI5.SLI. I can't find a reference to that in the PFD as a TEC route, so my question is, is it acceptable to file LAXN55?

Thanks, Russ

The route definition for the LAXN55 is SEAL BEACH DP SLI. SEAL BEACH FIVE is the current valid version of the SEAL BEACH departure procedure.

Normally you can simply file the TEC route name (LAXN55) but in these special cases from LAX, I would suggest filing with the current departure procedure name (SLI5.SLI) so it is 100% clear to the controllers that you understand exactly which DP you are flying to begin the TEC route. You can add "TEC Route LAXN55" in the remarks section.

EDIT: Based on some input from Keith and Peter, even in the LAX situations there is no issue with simply filing the TEC route code (i.e. LAXN55). The controller is going to include the specific DP in their clearance regardless of what you file.
