GPS 530

Post by JustinWheat »

With the GPS in X Plane 10 is there any easy way to enter the flight plan before you startup the aircraft? Trying to enter a SID along with the en route way points is a little time consuming. Is there any way to speed this process up?

Thanks

It doesn't support SID / STAR (but you can enter all the departure/arrival waypoints manually to create and fly the sid/star). The developers have said it may be added in the future (capability to select SID/STAR fmc like), but there is no further information yet.

Approach procedures are supported, you select the destination airport then PROC and you choose desired procedure which will be amended to the flight plan.

You can save your own flight plans for later usage vía save/import and you can also import external ".fms" flight plans from internet planning tools that support fms format output. fms plans go to "xplaneroot/output/fms plans"

Here you have a demo video how to create your own plan, then to amend destination airport approach procedure:

there are a lot of instructional videos on youtube.

hope this helps

I use a python script plugin called 'FMS Programmer' that gives you an interface for typing a route then uploading it to the GPS. I had a quick look on the x-plane.org forum and couldn't find it. Let me know and I can send you the files if you're not able to find it either.

If I have a long route to put in, I generate a .fms file and load it in the GPS.

Both myflightroute.com and simroutes.com can generate the files. Download a file and put it in the output/fms plans directory.

On the flight plan page of the gps, turn the outer knob right one click, you should see a list of all the flight plans in the directory.

Posting from my phone, I'll come back later and try to clean this up a bit.

PFPX Flight Planner will also create a X-Plane FMS plan in the X-Plane directory. I have airplane configs for the King Air 200 and PC12.

John-

Any chance I could get those configs from you? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the template thing in PFPX (lack of time to do so, mostly).

TIA!

Actually they are already part of the program. I was thinking someone sent them to me.

Here is how to add them:

Click on the Airplane top left -> Add New Aircraft

Another screen appears. Type in registration (for the Pilatus - PC12), then the tail number and under Type use the drop down to select Pilatus PC-12NG.

It fills out the rest of the items. When you have it all filled in select Save at the top.
