external visual other players airplane's orientation

Post by wmburns »

Not sure where the best place to post this. Recently upgraded my X-plane to 10.40b5 (64 bit) with the new PilotEdge plugin version (37MB, v1.1.4 Mac/Windows 32/64-bit). My OS is WIN7 64bit. Fairly vanilla system. Attempting to test everything together on some PE flights. Everything is working perfectly But while setting on the ground at KSAN was watching AAL754 taxing down Bravo SIDEWAYS.

In the past when viewing other player's aircraft they are orientated correctly. So honestly I don't know if this is a problem with X-plane 10.40 or the PE plugin since this is the first time I have seen anything like this. I have a screen shot showing AAL754 lined up at KSAN rwy 27 ready for departure. The airplane proceed to take off and climb out sideways. I'm unable to upload the screen shot due to it being over 2MB in size.

To try and narrow this down, I parked at KSNA to watched other players move around. For those players that showed up, the plane's orientation was correct. However, since the PE map was showing other player's airplane that I could not see, there may also be a CSL issue with my sim (or elevation/land sharking).

Suggestions? Is this a new software/plugin issue or a model specific CSL issue?

If you're on XP, reduce the size of the image via external programs (ie Paint or something...). I'll ask this first - Did you upgrade both at the same time or one at a time? Based on your post, I'll assume both at the same time ;) Since no one else has said something (me included, I'm a non-beta person... and I've been on a break, so I haven't had a chance to see sideways Boeings..), I'll take a guess and say it's 10.4 - though I suspect the plugin may need to be updated if the modeling has changed. That being said, it could also just be your specific XP...

What type of plane was AAL754? Have you seen any other instances of that type of airplane, and if so, was it sideways, too? I'm trying to determine if this was specific to AAL754, or specific to the type of model.

Let me know if you see it again, or if it was a one-off issue.

This is the first time I have ever seen a plane taxi sideways (hence why I thought it should be reported especially with the release of new code). AAL754 is listed on PEaware as BOEING 757-200; Here's the PEaware link:
http://peaware.pilotedge.net/flight.cfm?id=109466

Note, I go out of the way to keep my sim set up as vanilla as possible. The only add ons I use are:
  • PE client
  • Xsaitekpanels
  • FSEconomy
  • Several Carenado Aircraft. Was flying PC12 V1.3 at the time.
I don't modify the CSL pointers choosing instead to use the software as provided by PE.

Thanks for the reminder about re-sizing images. Just got "end user" point and click lazy. Will attach re-sized image. I saw the plane taxi sideways and took the screen shot with the plane lined up for take off on RWY 27. The plane proceeded to climb out right wing forward. Very strange indeed. The airplane is also above the runway but I assumed that was the X-Plane/FSX terrain issue.

Note, for this example the X-plane was 10.40b5 Beta with the NEW PE plugin. I have never seen this before on X-plane 10.36 or the old PE plugin.

As stated in the opening, I went to KSNA and did see other light GA aircraft moving about normally. So that tends to tell me this is a CSL issue.

Just a thought, but could it have been the other person's issue with a faulty/misinstalled CSL? If other planes were fine...

Hmmm...

A group of us saw this awhile back, it was tied to a specific tubeliner csl, but cannot recall which. It may very well be the 757. Also, I don't remember if the other pilot was on x-plane or not.

Keith, if it helps, this was my flight, there should be at least three other jets that were flying the same departure and arrival locations as I was. http://peaware.pilotedge.net/flight.cfm?id=105126 . Perhaps you can confirm if one of them was the 757 too. We did 2 to 3 flights that day so might be one of the others, but figured it might pin point it down if there was a 757 too.

In the end, we were certain it was plane specific and not PE.
