Break out your approach charts and see what you would do if you were RNAV-equipped and received these instructions:
"cleared direct CARMS, hold southwest as published, expect further clearance at 0525, time now 0455."
You'd then received some descents in the holding stack as planes cleared out and then at some point, "cleared straight-in ILS RWY 3 approach."
If you'd have asked me if I thought I'd ever work a stack of arrivals into GCN in IMC, I would've said, ".......no."
Outstanding job to all the pilots tonight. What a pleasure. It was also fun to work a single sector handling just a single arrival stream, it was a controlling dream come true and about as close to the experience of r/w controlling as we can get on here, rather than having to work a massive amount of airspace at the same time.
Marcus, I hope your technical issues didn't DAMPEN YAW spirits at the end there. On the bright side, your impending death DID result in the guy behind you getting to jump ahead of you in the approach. So, ya know, silver linings and all that
