David, you are certainly free to express your opinion of the aircraft. Noone will ever agree as to how good or bad an aircraft is modelled on any platform. However, you crossed the line when you made this personal, stating that the Xplane community is engaged in some conspiracy trying to get everyone to move over from FSX/P3D. I'm not sure why you would even go there. Do you even realize you are just as guilty of doing the very thing you just accused Xplane folks of doing? A lot of people use both platforms, by the way. The great thing about our hobby is you are allowed to use both. There is no "us" vs. "them", especially at Pilot Edge.

Oh, just FYI, I am primarily a P3D user, just so you know where I am coming from. However I am just starting to try out Xplane (literally 1 week), which has made me appreciate why so many people like it. Each platform has its pros and cons. I am just thankful PilotEdge embraces all 3 platforms.

People are naturally drawing comparisons between this and A2A products for FSX/P3D. Having watched Froogles review of it I am certainly not jumping for joy and running to the .org store to buy it. Compared to an A2A aircraft it feels like a beta release. The yawing characteristics of the prop are way over exaggerated, it doesn't stall correctly, the brakes are vicious etc etc.... Now for the Xplane community to come out and claim this is an excellent plane that rivals A2A just shows how much the Xplane community is trying to coerce the FSX/P3D people to Xplane. I think I will be sticking with A2A for the time being though, and wait to see if this 172 comes up to the same standards as A2A in future patches.
The A2A plane doesn't stall correctly either. It enters a spin from a stall way too easily.

And let me make it clear on my part..... I never said it was at A2A's level, rivals them, or even beats them. All I said is that it is A2A like with the walk around, tie down, cowling, and soon engine service panel.

Todd,

I'm slightly confused as to how I've made this personal? I've made a comment based on what I've seen on the various Xplane forums and threads. I don't feel it's a conspiracy theory as it's well known Xplane needs more people to come over from FSX/P3D to make it less of a niche market. As you say though PilotEdge supports all three platforms which is great. At the moment though I don't feel this 172 is anywhere near A2A standards. Maybe it will be in future patches though.

My favorite patch note from 1.30:

ELEVATOR TRIM LESS SENSIBLE

The full list of changes is fairly extensive.

Flew version 1.30 last night. Wow what an improvement. I LOVE that when you use a lot of rudder deflection that is has the whistling sound just like in RW. I heard it and was like there is no way they did that. Let off the rudder and it went away put it back in and there it was.

Controls at low speeds seems more realistic now. It does not float nearly as long as it did and is more realistic.

It still climbs like crazy. Have not tried any stalls or steep turns but overall I have to say amazingly close to RW. Probably more so than any other I have flown.

The 172...a joy to fly? They must still have a lot of work to do, then!

I took the new version out for a spin. Very impressed. It did so well I was curious how it would do with flight maneuvers.

Did slow flight. Fairly accurate.

Power off stall. Fairly accurate but wanted to enter a spin a bit too easy IMO.
Power on stall was accurate in my opinion.

Steep turns are really close. Sight picture is a little off from RW but way way closer than anything else.

I am very impressed with what I feel is accuracy in cross wind landings. The control inputs feel right on to me for the amount of crosswind. I wish I had this plane during my training as I think it would have saved me a great deal of money getting crosswind landings down.
