Filing tec routes.

Post by Jetblue291 »

Just looking for a brief overview of filling tec and or preferred routes, and should you file a sis and star with these flying small GA aircraft. Thanks

Generally I just file the TEC - from most the SOCAL fields, there are departure instructions anyways. A RW pilot or controller can correct me if I'm wrong.

If looking for a way to do BOTH, check out myflightroute.com. Use the "CRAFT" tool and enter departure/arrival airports. The tool will tell you if a TEC route exists for the airport pairs. Press the TEC route button to start the TEC route search. Once the aircraft type has been selected the tool will fill out the flight plan with the route and altitude information. Note that route field will have the actual route and the comment field with have the TEC route ID in the comment.

I have been told that filling both the expanded route and the TEC route in the comments reduces the load on the controllers.

Note it is acceptable to just file the TEC route ID in the route field. I tend to do the myflightroute.com method because it makes it easy to cut/paste the route into Skyvector.
