Is it me, or does ATC seem somewhat pissed off lately? I realize not everyone you are talking to are professionals like yourself, but why the attitude? I've flown mostly weekends and it seems like there is only one controller on, so we hear everything and they sound overworked and pissed off.
It kind of makes me not want to connect.

Re: Pissed off ATC
traffic is up recently and it takes a while for extra shifts to be scheduled. weekend staffing is also a challenge, it's the busiest time on the network and it's the hardest time to get staffing, let alone extra staff to cover more shifts.
if you have specific issues, email ops@pilotedge.net as shown on the contact page and we'll look into it.
The combination of this being an unscreened training environment that is busy and often undefstaffed can be hard on the controllers and there are times where it may show. it is something we will discuss internally.

I understand Keith. It just seems to be a near daily occurrence (daily - - meaning the days I fly). Maybe it's just me pissing them off?

I know this was meant in gest.
My own observation is these guys (the controllers) do a tremendous job -- for humans. I've never had any controller on PE act outside of the boundries of professionalism. Sometimes there is time for humor on the airwaves, and sometimes the load is such that rapid, efficient and professional controlling is what is demanded by the circumstances -- and move on.
I do like the warmth some controllers can impart in their voices, but NONE have ever been less than professional. All have helped me learn to be a better pilot and more professional on the airwaves myself.
What more could I realistically ask for? I am only human as well, and they have witnessed plenty of my own foibles with tolerance. Besides, there is always a second cup of coffee to raise my spirits after landing.

Fully agree what Don stated above..
Even if you go to a private school which you pay for, teachers might be grumpy, demanding, not always patient etc. But we are there to learn - not to snuggle up with the teachers.
I have the same experience however, that some PE controllers are very patient and others are not - like in real life. But they are all very supportive at the end, and I learned the most from the grumpy guy so far...since he immediately lets you know what you are doing wrong.

I understand and agree with the observation the original poster has noticed. However, he has always been "professional," and accurate. His tone can be less then happy but he is always helpful, clear, and will identify and correct any issues he sees. I believe he adds greatly to the overall experience on PE.
It is nice to have different personalities on the network, if happy pills are forced upon him :0) In my opinion it would take away much realism.

The only happy pill that controllers need comes from prepared pilots. If there are any parts of your flight plan you don't understand, ask before you are in the air. Learn to anticipate what is going to happen in the next leg of your trip. This is known as "Staying ahead of your aircraft". Kudos to the controllers for their excellent work.
