Tehachapi wind farm...

Post by theluckyone17 »

... I think they put up enough wind powered generators there. That farm is dragging my frame rate down to nothing. Before I go hunting for a method to bring them down to a sane number (I see no reason to get rid of them all), has anyone else tackled this? Did a quick Google search, and found nothing.

World or airport detail may bring them down. Most likely airport detail.

That'd be too easy  ;). Knocking number of objects in the rendering settings down to "none" does get rid of all of the turbines... but setting it to "default" brings them back en masse.

I have a theory that since the FAA has the turbines listed as obstructions, X-Plane is giving them special display rules outside the normal rendering options.

If I recall, the HD mesh adds those. They weren't there in default X-Plane generation.

HD mesh and OSM both added them IIRC. Your solutions are to delete the offending scenery, try creating a big exclusion zone (not sure if this works), or look the other direction when you fly around them ;).

Removed the offending +35-119.dsf file (moved it into a disabled scenery folder) from AIPilotX's HDv3 mesh folder, and the farm is no longer there. Thanks!

Edit: Well, that's not right. Don't troubleshoot when you're tired. Apparently, that's not the right DSF, as the turbines are back. I'll do more searching later.

I don't know about the Tehachapi wind farm specifically, but I had the same problem with the wind farm northwest of Palm Springs - cut my framerate by 2/3rds.

I "fix" it by disabling the "w2xp_America" scenery from Simheaven, so the Tehachapi windmills might be in there as well (or maybe some OSM stuff). I don't think the HD mesh has much to do with it.

I'd like to find a way to just get rid of the windmills OR not have animated windmills at all.
