i have a (probably naive) question.
In studying entry procedures into standard/non-standard holds such as for standard PDZ for I-11, I get the Direct, Parellel, and Offset rules BUT the thing that throws me is that Parallel entry is flying on the outbound heading in the opposite direction to any other traffic
already established in the hold. This makes me a nervous rookie. I could understand if there is mandated altitude spacing from ATC but all traffic is in a climb from a non-standard entry altitude. Is it simply a 'keep the faith' in ATC watching over you?

RADAR ATC’s requirement for altitude separation necessitates that the controller maintain a minimum of 1,000’ vertical separation between IFR aircraft. That minimum is an absolute both when aircraft are level and during any transitions to assigned altitude. If aircraft are climbing/descending, ATC will make certain, guarantee, and ensure that all other IFR aircraft in your vicinity are already separated from you, and each other.

Lateral separation isn't used during holding over a given fix, it's all vertical separation. Your speed during the hold, closing rate on other aircraft, or the fact that you might be opposite direction to other aircraft who are established in the hold while you maneuver to ENTER the hold are all irrelevant.
