I stumbled across a neat tool online today where you can see live real-world air traffic in real-time (I know, that's nothing new), but even cooler you can go back and look at the history from days past. It's especially cool to view an airport like LAX and set it for a busy hour (click the "recorded History" button) and then set it at 30x speed to get a really good idea of how the flows are worked at one of the busiest airports in the world.
The primary purpose of this site is for noise tracking at airports where noise is a factor, but I just found it really cool to be able to go back to any time and see what the traffic was like and how ATC was working the flows.
It's a bit slow to load the page, so be patient...but once it's loaded, it works great! It has airports all over the world, but in the US, some of the big ones include: BUR, DEN, LGB, LAX, CRQ, ONT, RNO, DCA, SAN, SJC, VNY and IAD. I have provided the link to the LAX one below. If you want to search for another airport, replace the "lax4" in the URL with the 3-letter airport code of your choosing ie. "san"

Re: Cool RW Flight Tracker History Tool
They used this in Denver years ago and it had something to do with a sound survey regarding airline traffic. Pretty cool to watch.
