traffic pattern question

Post by Thomas_Horn »

I have a short question and I am pretty sure someone knows the answer :)

When approaching an untowered airport in VFR flight, which traffic pattern on the opposite runway do I have to choose, when a right pattern is mentioned for a specific runway.
For example: Catalina airport KAVX has an "RP 22" mentioned in the WAC, which I suppose means "right traffic pattern for runway 22". But how about runway 4 - is it also on right traffic pattern? :?:

Thanks, Thomas

Nope, it would be left traffic for Runway 4. If it were right traffic for Runway 4, there would also be a "RP 4" listed under the airport on the Sectional/TAC/WAC. It is assumed that left traffic patterns are to be made whenever it isn't specified.

Runway 4 would still be left traffic. The idea in this example is to keep traffic to the northwest of the field.
