KDAG - KONT How Would You File?

Post by barcman1967 »

Trying to figure out how to file this..... KDAG-KONT https://skyvector.com/?ll=34.4618811787 ... WNA%20KONT

Scratching my head on this one for some reason. No flight aware routes on this, and the only PEAware route flown is BULGY V8 PDZ

DEPARTURE: The DAG1.DAG out of KDAG has a screaming right turn onto V587 SW Bound - should I file DAG to TEELE then back to DAG (as referenced on the DP https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1601/pd ... AGGETT.PDF - even though the DP states on V587 to climb on course)

ARRIVAL - V587 to DAWNA and then have to fly the remainder of the ZIGGY FIVE arrival? https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1601/pdf/00965ZIGGY.PDF

I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

The DAG1 takes all aircraft to TEELE. After that you'd climb on course if you were continuing on V587, or (as in your case), turn right back to DAG. So you can just file DAG1.DAG for the departure, no need to spell out DAG TEELE DAG. After that I'd probably file V587 BULGY V21 PDZ. ATC would take you off of that route before PDZ, but in the event of lost comms there are approaches that begin there.

So I'd probably file: DAG1.DAG V587 BULGY V21 PDZ

I fly this route frequently for FSE. Before I answer this, it would help to mention the aircraft type.

As I'm flying mostly GA aircraft (BE58 and PC12), The Daggett One departure makes the most sense (as you have figured out). V587 is also a better choice as it makes the approach to KONT easier when KONT is landing West (26's). When I'm flying off line I will frequently turn direct HEC once above the MEA for the area (high performance aircraft with good rate of climb).

As for the arrival into KONT, the decent over the terrain is tricky. Can't decend too early as the mountains are close the approach IAP's. For the planes I'm flying managing the decent speed is vital. I'm sure there are many aircraft that can not make it down in time.

For a GA type aircraft, I don't see how a STAR is much help into KONT.

As the owner/operator of PC12 N128CM I keep a look out for other PC12's operating around KONT. Because there are so few PC12's out there it got me thinking. So I checked the flight logs for N128CM.

What a small world we live in!

Currently N128CM is stuck in KCRO (another rental). I have been trying to get a block of time to make the run from KCRO to KLGB but my work/home life hasn't been cooperating.

What do you say? Are you interested in bringing N128CM back into the KONT area? With an almost full load of 8 PAX it should be a good payday! The route planning looks challenging as well. I was thinking something like this:

for sure I am willing to work with you - I just today leased a PC-12 as a test to determine if ownership is worth it.

But - drop me a PM and let me know what you are thinking - always willing to help out another PE / FSE member.

And yes, what a small world eh? (eh - canadian).
