KBUR-KSBA Question
KBUR-KSBA Question
Quick question about the TEC route between Burbank area and Santa Barbara. I've flown two area TEC routes and both times I basically get one long vector from either VNY or BUR all the way to the VTU 282 radial. Skipping both the rest of any departure procedure and bypassing every fix except KWANG. I fly TEC routes a ton on PE and always end up on the airways so I was curious as to what's different in the Mugu-SBA APP area that allows this. Thanks!

Re: KBUR-KSBA Question
Just a guess - maybe the volume is less so they just approve it - or something to do with flying over the water hehe.

Re: KBUR-KSBA Question
The traffic in that area is segregated. There are a lot of mixed type arrivals and overflights from the northwest and west which are all flowed through FIM toward VNY.
Eastbound traffic is routed north of GINNA. The KBUR ILSRWY8, KVNY VOR-A final approach path, and traffic between GINNA and FIM all go eastbound between 4000 and 11000 feet.
Westbound traffic and BUR/VNY departures cruising at or below 8000 are turned to a 260 heading 3NM south of the BUR localizer via what is called the 'buffer line' or direct KWANG if capable, to pass 3NM south of GINNA where they will be merged with VTU traffic heading into SBA. This prevents climbing departures head on with descending arrivals, through an area where an instrument approach is in use at an inappropriate altitude for direction of flight..
While the procedure is standard in the real world, it is optional on PE. You may or may not get the shortcut depending on the circumstances.
