LAX updated sids

Post by jtbarton »

Hi guys, I was flying out of LAX yesterday to SBA. I filed VTU5 VTU VTU282R KWANG per the TEC route. When I was briefing the departure, I realized that the VTU6 had just been realized but the DEL controller had issued the VTU5. I decided to not mention it and proceeded with the flight [Only made it 1/2 way through due to plane crash :x]. Should I have brought up the update to the DEL controller? If not, when will PE begin simulating the new sids [LAXX8, VTU6, LOOP8, HOLTZ1, etc.] Normally this would have not been a problem but there are some changes to the old procedures that are in the new ones. I believe this is due to magnetic changes to the earths curvature but I am not sure. Thanks, Jack

A little note worthy of mention is that places like Airnav still have the old title but when you click on it, it shows the updated chart. Title VTU5 but is the VTU6. Image attached

Thought this was strange.

The FAA tricked us on this update which is why we missed it.

Normally I check a FAA website a couple days prior to the AIRAC update date and look for changes. I did this on Tuesday and basically saw nothing. Well at some point between when I checked and the release date they updated a bunch of stuff.

So that's why we missed it, we'll be up to date by the open today, sorry about that.

Other interesting ZLA changes:

* Airport elevation change at KLAX forced updates on a bunch of approach plates in addition to several SID/STAR
* VFR chart change:

Code: Select all

Add LOS ANGELES, CA Class E: That airspace extending upward from the surface within 1.1 miles
each side of the 304º bearing from the Whiteman Airport, extending from the 3-mile radius of Whiteman Airport
to 6.6 miles northwest of the airport. This Class E airspace area is effective during the specific dates and times
established in advance by a Notice to Airmen. The effective date and time will thereafter be continuously
published in the Airport/Facility Directory.

Revise VAN NUYS, CA Class E: That airspace extending upward from the surface within a 4.3-mile radius of Van
Nuys Airport, excluding that airspace within the Bob Hope Airport, CA, Class C airspace area, and excluding that
airspace within a 1.8-mile radius of Whiteman Airport, CA.

Revise VAN NUYS, CA Class D: That airspace extending upward from the surface to but not including 3,000 feet
MSL within a 4.3-mile radius of Van Nuys Airport, excluding that airspace within the Bob Hope Airport, CA, Class
C airspace area, and excluding that airspace within a 1.8-mile radius of Whiteman Airport, CA. This Class D
airspace area is effective during the specific dates and times established in advance by a Notice to Airmen. The
effective date and time will thereafter be continuously published in the Airport/Facility Directory.
