Minimum cruise speed?

Post by tbaac »

Silly question perhaps but is there a lower limit on the type of plane you can use?

I'm thinking of the pattern at KSNA for example. Will I hold up other traffic too much if I do it in a C152 or a Cherokee 140?

Thanks.

In reality faster aircraft would fly a slightly wider pattern or simply extend further downwind if there was a slow aircraft in the pattern.

Thanks for the replies.
Its weird but I've struggled to find my perfect small plane in X Plane.
I'd been trying with AirfoilLabs 172SP but I find it too erratic.
I like the new Cherokee 140s but thought they were maybe a bit small.

I would suggest taking a look at the "Reality Expansion Packs" from Simcoders. They are available for Carenados Cessna 210 and the Bonanzas F33A and V35B.

I have the Centurion with the expansion pack and would highly recommend it!

I've also found the C 182 a nice VFR aircraft for the PE area. Small enough to handle but fast enough to do a lot of flights in an hour or so. I use Carenado or A2A depending on the mood.

Similar question: how fast does your plane have to be before you get assigned 20R at KSNA? :)

Thanks Matthias. I'd heard Froogle mention the Reality Expansion Packs in his videos but discounted their creators as just another pretender.
(remaining cautious of any company said to be 'The A2A of X Plane'.
Looking at the videos though and also seeing your recommendation, they look like they could be something good.

My favourite A2A GA is probably the Comanche.
I'm liking the look of the Bonanza F33A.

Thanks BFG. I've got A2A's C182 for FSX although still have problems getting it connected to PE.
But I prefer their Comanche to the C182 anyway I think so I'm thinking of lookng at that F33A as a similar-ish aircraft.

Technically, and I'm stretching the boundaries of your question here, there is a "lower" limit on what kind of plane you can use within 30 nautical miles and up to 10,000 feet of LAX and really most Class B airports in the NAS. With limited exception, any aircraft operating within this bubble needs a working Mode C transponder with altitude reporting. ;)

I was using the A2A C182 in P3D before switching to X-Plane, and while the Carenado+REP combo may not be on par yet, it certainly is one of the best options for realistic GA planes in X-Plane. The developer is constantly working on the product, providing free updates with improvements and added features.

.
Just request it. ATC accommodate pilot requests whenever possible.
