Opinions needed!

Post by Jtkerr »

Good Evening,

I am looking at purchasing either the Carenado C-182 or the C-206 for X-plane 10, but I am having a hard time deciding which one to go with. One question regarding the C-182, does the G1000 display the airspace? Thank you everyone for your help!
Sincerely,

I don't have experience with either, but I remember hearing that Carenado's G1000 doesn't have procedures yet. That's kind of important for IFR flying.

Joseph,

You're welcome to ask here, but you might get a more detailed response through a direct support mechanism offered by Carenado.

I recently purchased the 206 and I am quite happy with it. I also purchased the G1000 add-on for it but I only played around with it briefly (big learning curve on it and it seems a bit slow). I am using the standard gauges / avionics right now.

Overall, i really like the 206 flight characteristics. Something I did note though is the lack of DME....(maybe i am blind)..but one of the reasons I bought this was to get back to IFR nav basics so I like the needle and card style CDI and the lack of HSI, flight director, etc.

IIRC the CT206H comes with an alternate .acf file in its folder. When you replace the normal one with the alternate, you will have one GNS530 instead of the two 430s. This will give you a DME reading for NAV1, but of course you sacrifice one GPS unit.

This is what it looks like with the 530: http://store.x-plane.org/assets/images/ ... 06H/28.jpg

The latest version i bought has the 530 as default. I meant DME if navigating without GPS. :D

Good luck on your first PE flight...just take a deep breath and go for it. We were all there shaking in our little pilot booties! (still do at times).

Ah, I see. But as you will probably have the GPS turned on (beacuse it's needed for COM1 and NAV1), you can just use the DME indication below the frequencies and ignore the rest. When you don't input any flight plan and don't activate the map page, the GPS won't be of much use for navigation anyways. :)
