Crash on connect to PE

Hello All,
I have been having trouble with the PE plugin in X-plane in that every time I hit the button to connect the whole sim crashes. I have tried using a shortened call sign, making sure the sim is up to date, tried different airports just as a long shot and all to no avail.
I have noticed that on rare occasion if I hit the connect button in just the right way the client will connect and all is well. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have also examined the log file from X-plane at the very end of it it says that the sim crashed due to the pilot edge plugin.

Which operating system?

Ubuntu 1404, It has worked in the past but nothing as far as I can tell has changed. I have reinstalled the client just to be sure.
