radio frequencies question
radio frequencies question
Hi, I just started Pilotedge over the weekend. It's fantastic for training. I'm using FSX with the Reality XP 530, Flight1 GTN 750, as well as Foreflight. I've been using Foreflight to anticipate frequencies, i.e. tower/ground freq before I land at an airport. I've noticed that a few of the frequencies are different from what I'm given over Pilotedge ATC. I was wondering if Pilotedge is using frequencies from any one database that's published somewhere? For example the most current A/FD, airnav, something like that where I can go to beforehand and plan my frequency changes? thanks!

Re: radio frequencies question
What are examples where the tower/ground freqs were different?
We do run the approach sectors differently than real life and sometimes use a departure/approach frequency other than the one that is published for an airport or procedure, but ground/tower should be the same.

Re: radio frequencies question
It may have just been approach/departure... and I'll fly again today, and take note, but I think maybe Montgomery Exec. because they run 2 freq's one from 0600 - 2100. and John Wayne shows 3 different tower freq's. and I was thinking, "I wonder if PilotEdge has a specific list they use?"
Another question I had - yesterday I started my flight at Henderson in Vegas... for whatever reason FSX doesn't show an ATIS freq. it just goes to the CTAF. In that case when I called Clearance I just said I had the weather, because I got it off of Foreflight... I'm also running real time weather. That maybe just an FSX thing but I wasn't exactly sure how to handle it... but if I was flying in real life... I would've just referenced Foreflight for an airport without weather info.
To clarify... on Foreflight Henderson does have ATIS and AWOS... but FSX is so far out of date I guess....

Oh man! That's fantastic! Thanks for sending those links.
Re: radio frequencies question
You are correct, FSX's database has a lot of gotchas like that. There are quite a few airports that have gotten automatic weather reporting since FSX was released.fencelake wrote: To clarify... on Foreflight Henderson does have ATIS and AWOS... but FSX is so far out of date I guess....

Re: radio frequencies question
I don't see this in the airport remarks for MYF. What I do see listed on the airport diagram is 119.2 (which would be the correct frequency for PE), however also listed in the AF/D is 125.7 which SkyVector notes that "FREQ 125.7 ALSO USED FOR TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS RWY 10L-28R." I don't think PE simulates this, and you may safely ignore the tower operating hours in the airport remarks. To simplify PE's operations, you should assume that all controller positions at all civil use fields (i.e., non-military) are staffed at all times during the network's published operating hours. Even if "IRL" that facility would be closed at that particular hour.fencelake wrote:but I think maybe Montgomery Exec. because they run 2 freq's one from 0600 - 2100.
PE is not a 100% true-to-form virtual facsimile of actual ZLA operations. It's only the best approximation according to the specific needs of the audience PE appeals to and the limitations of manpower and software. And as you have undoubtedly noticed, there are plenty of times when you have only one controller actively manning EVERY POSSIBLE ATC position in the virtual ZLA airspace. They already have a TON of things going on at once, especially during peak hours, and already have to memorize an encyclopedia's worth of information without getting into the specifics of which frequencies are used for what and where, and during which hours towered facilities are in operation or not.
128.35 is not used by the network and I'm not certain what it's purpose is in the real world (helicopters maybe?). The only tower freqs at SNA in use on PE are the ones published for the respective runways.fencelake wrote:and John Wayne shows 3 different tower freq's.
