Hi,
Does anyone one know of an X-plane SR22 with Avidyne avionics that is not the Jason Chandler model? I'm looking for a really good SR22 model that models the Avidyne avionics package accurately. I have the Jason Chandler SR22 and while it flys well, the Avionics package is really bad. I bought a RW 2005 SR22 in March and have been on the hunt for a sim ever since. Currently the best thing is by Eaglesoft but only on FS-X. I'm flying that model now but would love to go back to X-plane if a good model were available.
Thanks
Chris

Hey I forgot to mention I already seen those two sites as well. I'm a COPA member and had seen that thread. However it's over two years old and flythissim has stopped producing a DIY version. The only way you can purchase it now is to buy the full simulator for a minimum of five grand. I was hoping to come out much less than that.
Thank you for the tips

They do still offer a DIY version. The price went up significantly, but now you get essentially the same software as the TouchTrainer. I have SimAVIO on my home computer, and I just purchased a TouchTrainer with a local flight school, so I can answer any specific questions. I don't have much Cirrus or Avidyne experience yet, but my impression is the Avidyne simulation is very good. We have the Cirrus package on the TouchTrainer along with Piper and Cessna.C177pilot wrote:Hey I forgot to mention I already seen those two sites as well. I'm a COPA member and had seen that thread. Re: Looking for an SR22 for X-plane with good avionics
Chris,
Nothing out there models the Avidyne system properly (sort of) as well as FTS, so in order to have what you want you'll either need to spring for a TouchTrainer or do a DIY with their SimAvio Pro. I built my DIY using the previous SimAvio. When they dropped it and then upcharged for Pro I wasn't too happy, but it's the only way you'll get semi-accurate, functioning Avidyne avionics with updated nav data. Their product isn't cheap, but in the scheme of things is only a tank or two of RW fuel. I can't see you getting a worthwhile hardware set-up for less than several grand, and If you don't want to take the time to build something, then the TouchTrainer is a quick answer. As you've seen on COPA, they come up on marketplace now and then. I personally would much rather build my own for that kind of cash, and get exactly the stuff I want. Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions. You can PM me on COPA if you want.
A pic.

Re: Looking for an SR22 for X-plane with good avionics
That's true, the FTS avionics aren't generally 100% complete, and that's worth knowing before you drop up to $2K on SimAVIO Pro. SIDs, STARs, and VNAV functions, for example, are not included. That said, FTS does a good job with the core functionality and the touch screen interface, and they actively support and update their products. I haven't found any 100% complete avionics in an FAA approved package from a competitor near that price point anyway. In a flight school environment, the flexibility of the TouchTrainer wins by a mile against the competition. We can have the system configured for a steam gauge 172 with 430W, and within a minute or two convert it to an Avidyne SR22, or a Seneca with Aspen PFD and 530W, or a Saratoga with G1000, etc..rtataryn wrote:

Re: Looking for an SR22 for X-plane with good avionics
Very true Ryan. SimAvio is a very flexible system and their support has been excellent. I previously owned a Cardinal, like Chris did, and had my touchscreen set up to match my 177 six pack panel. Now, I can quickly switch it to a Cirrus Perspective panel, fly it as a T or TN, etc.
Here's my Perspective layout: Of course, any item can be laid out anywhere on the screens.

Re: Looking for an SR22 for X-plane with good avionics
Rod,
That is a really nice setup. I didn't realize that the SimAvio was available for non-TouchTrainer customers. That's good to know. The price is a bit staggering but certainly a better deal than developing the software myself. I think for the time being I will stick with FS-X and the EagleSoft SR22 model. I really don't like FS-X but the Eaglesoft model is pretty good on the Avidyne package. I'll continue to hope that Carrenado comes out with an Avidyne version of the SR22.
Thanks for the help. At least I now know there is a good option out there for X-plane. Also, do they have a 3D panel or is it all 2D?

Re: Looking for an SR22 for X-plane with good avionics
It's all 2D Chris. But its no big deal with everything always in view and reach rather than moving around on a single screen.
I know you wanted Avidyne and X-Plane, but if you're OK with FSX or Prepar3D, and were looking for a Perspective Cirrus panel, I've heard several great reviews for Flight1.

Unfortunately they don't have an Avidyne solution, but they apparently have SIDS, STARS and VNAV functionality that Ryan pointed out are missing from SimAvio. And it's way cheaper.
