Hi Al,
Flew for the first time last night after being offline for a few months and trying to shake some rust off. (had a blast BTW and realized i really missed the network)
This must have been asked / answered before but I can't seem to find a reference anywhere in previous posts.
I know that Military airports are handled as uncontrolled (other than March), but I am wondering about those that are located inside a Bravo such as Miramar and North Island inside the KSAN Bravo for example. Now that I think about it, this question probably relates to any uncontrolled airport inside a Bravo. And I am referring to actually being inside the Bravo (to SFC) as opposed to being under the shelf.
So....how do frequency changes / CTAF calls work when landing at and departing from an uncontrolled airport inside of a Bravo?
Military Field Inside Bravo
Re: Military Field Inside Bravo
Its the same as any other uncontrolled airport. RW ATC would have you keep your squawk code (usually) until you land. But approach control will cut you loose once you have the field in sight and you make your CTAF calls as you normally would. Just think of it as a part time tower that is always closed...
It's a PE peculiarity to have a closed tower in a Bravo surface area but it is what it is.
