taxi clearance question

Post by Acroshaw »

Just a quick question that arose from tonight's flight ( rudely cut short by a work call out ), what is the exact phraseology that ATC use when you're given a taxi clearance by ground which allows you to cross another runway ( or two in this case - KSBA) without calling ground again when you're about to cross? I ask, because I have fallen afoul of this at palm springs, when I thought I was cleared all the way to my runway and I was meant to stop and ask to cross a runway. There must be some subtle difference I am missing!!!

If the assigned taxi route will involve the crossing of one or more runways, then the taxi instruction will either contain an explicit crossing instruction, or a hold short instruction.

There no ambiguity at all, near as I can tell. The only ambiguity would be if you don't recall which of the two cases it was and you need to seek clarification as the pilot.

This is not to say that you should close your eyes and YOLO it across the runway, of course, it's prudent to check both ways before crossing, but you needn't stop the airplane and ask for permission to cross if you were already given crossing instructions in the initial taxi instruction.

Thanks Keith I'll listen out for the cross instruction more carefully , now that you describe it like that it makes sense !
