Live map suggestion

Hi folks,

I am a new subscriber and am having a tough time figuring out where I can fly from in the ZLA area. I am unfamiliar with the area.

Quick suggestion would be to put the polygon on the live map showing the limits of coverage. Would make it easy to judge flight lengths, etc. Picture worth a thousand words...

Old website had a link to see the Socal and Norcal boundaries directly overlaid in Skyvector.
I can not find it now though, maybe Keith will put it back.

Aside from that VFR chart on skyvector that Brandon provided, here are some other techniques:
- you can review the low enroute chart (on skyvector) an locate the ARTCC boundaries between Los Angeles, Salt Lake, Denver and Alber....Albu....Albi....the other one.

- when you're curious if an airport is within the Los Angeles ARTCC or not, you can look it up on airnav.com or skyvector and review the "ARTCC" field. If it's in the Los Angeles ARTCC, we're covering it. If it's in the Oakland ARTCC, we'll be covering it soon (that timing is still being worked out based on the logistics of hiring more controllers)

What are the odds? Seeing how its a popular question, just last nite I created a kml for exactly this purpose!

Blue is Los Angeles ARTCC.
Red is Oakland ARTCC.
Green is a portion of Oakland ARTCC(Within Oakland Oceanic FIR), controlled by Los Angeles ARTCC between FL240 and FL600.

The new PE site is very nice, but I miss the spot where it showed the active pilots and their clearances. There were a few times that I couldn't figure out a point in my ifr clearance and could check that to see what the proper name was. For instance one time I searched for a turn point for 20 minutes before I realized it wasn't a waypoint or intersection, but a diamond shaped waterway.

Adam, the live map lets you see that information when you click on an airplane. Additionally, I believe you can get it from PEAware, too, which is linked from the callsign of each aircraft on the pilot list on the front page.

Really, though, the very best way would be to ask ATC to read the clearance as many times as is needed to get it 100% right. That's what pilots do in real life, and that's what they should do here.
