Re: Sweet V35 Ride!
Andrzej,
Not that it's a big deal, but N2067Q is actually the tail number for a balloon based in Ohio. Do you have a tail number from a real world F33A you'd like to use? I'm kind of funny that way. I like to do replica paint jobs of real world aircraft, but if you want a fictional livery with a fictional tail number, I can do that, too.

If it was a real one ( color and tail #) I would be flying someone else's plane, right? I want it to be just mine.

Hahaha.... Nice. You not only get a paint job from Steven, but also an N-number look-up and an FAA sign-off.Steven Winslow wrote:Not that it's a big deal, but N2067Q is actually the tail number for a balloon based in Ohio.

Steven, your blue and white repaint looks great. Very nice job.
Not too big on the yellow and red one in that real picture of someone's backyard there. Looks like something Ronald McDonald would be flying. But taste is subjective. The repaint looks authentic, however.

Peter

Heh, Peter! I can't agree with you more about the yellow/red F33A, but I liked the tail number so I painted her up. I'm still trying to decide on a second livery for that bird. The only rule I have for selecting tail numbers for my aircraft is they cannot contain "Papa" in them. My wife HATES to hear me say PAPA over and over again as I fly. Other than that, I look first for a paint scheme I like and if the tail number is appealing, I do the paint.

You could pretend to own a Brazilian-registered aircraft and go with PP-PPP

Re: Sweet V35 Ride!
After seeing several repaints here and reading all the enthusiasm over the V35 I decided to try to relearn aircraft painting, something in which I used to dabble back in the FS9 and 2004 timeframe. Now, a few hours later I have a nearly-completed version of the V35 I fly, complete with the TKS anti-ice panels on the leading edges, but missing the tip tanks at the moment. At some point I will transfer over these textures to the Carenado model with the tips.
I also modified the FSX aircraft's engine data to become a turbo-normalized engine, something else that makes it closer to the characteristics of the real counterpart.

The most tedious part was trying to match the tail ID font. It's not perfect, but I found one on a free font site that was close. After putting both images here that I notice there is some more tweaking to do with the tail IDs position and size, but for now it's flyable and it feels a lot better to use the real tail ID on Pilot Edge with the aircraft actually sporting the right one on the body.

Re: Sweet V35 Ride!
Version 2.0 of N2845W, done with Carenado's tip tank V35 model, as the real aircraft has tips. For this one I more closely matched the striping pattern and cleaned up the tail ID issues.
One problem I noticed with Carenado's tip tank model (at least in FSX, not sure about X-plane's version) is that they placed the fuel cap for the tip tanks on the side of the tank, not on the top where it should be. I wouldn't want to be filling the tips with a side-located filler hole - that would be a bit messy. So for my repaint I simply removed the cap from the side, since placing it in its true location required advanced editing like perspective and splitting it across two separate renderings of the tanks. Not worth the time.

Since you guys are talking about the RXP GNS stuff I just thought I'd poke my head in this thread and mention the freeware update available by using Garmin's latest trainers... otherwise you get stuck with really old data (maybe 07 0r 09)
Link for updated navdata (not sure if it will work with XP or not - I use RXP with FSX):
