Flying the ILS 19R @ SNA today I think I screwed up while leaving SLI direct to the point where I reverse course. I tuned my ILS but was traveling away from the antenna. Does this mean the sensing is reversed?
On the published missed the sensing is reversed that I understand (because I'm flying opposite of where the antenna points).

Yes, if you were flying outbound (northeast) opposite the approach then you will experience reverse sensing. What aircraft are you using and does it have an HSI or glass cockpit instead of a traditional heading indicator/ILS indicator?
I would expect that perhaps 99.9% of the time in the real world you would receive radar vectors by ATC to intercept this ILS, given the highly congested airspace in the area and complete radar coverage. The only time you would fly the full procedure including the course reversal would be if you had a comm failure or if you requested it during off-hours and ATC had a clear scope to allow it.
Did you request the full published approach with course reversal or is that what you were given by ATC?

I requested the full approach for fun.
I've only assigned a full approach once to a satellite airport, when it made sense. The pilot was a box hauler and all he wanted to do was a quick PT inbound. I would have had to taken him farther out (VTF) for legal purposes hehe..
