Feature request: online controller list

Post by c.b.powell »

The new PilotEdge site is really fantastic, but one feature I miss from the old site was the list of online controllers. I enjoyed being able to associate names with voices, and it was just nice to see who was working what. I petition for the return of this feature! 8-)

Hi Chris,

I know where you're coming from, but this is not likely to happen in terms of a publicly available list now that we're in production mode. Will PM you regarding alternative approaches.

Hi Chris/Keith

I respectfully disagree with Chris about going with a controller list. This is not the way it is in the r/w. With the exception of Phil at Van Nuys.(Movie reference - One Six Right)
I have been on PE for a huge total of 114 minutes now and can honestly say it is the closest thing to true ATC that there is. I have not missed the text of Squawkbox popping up in my face, or the ever so popular VatSpy.
In fact, I have found that I am now having to use the proper A/FD and airport diagrams to get the appropriate frequencies and/or information.
Along with those charts and the VFR sectionals, I have done more reading and learning about charts in the last five days than I ever did before.

As I said, respectfully.

If it's slow, just feel free to ask on frequency... we'll let you know if we're too busy to "talk" for a minute or two... That happens in reality as well. I've had a conversation with a couple of pilots over the past few months and when things picked up, I simply started issuing instructions to others and the pilot I was talking with got the picture that it was time for business again...

We're a friendly bunch, honestly. People as well... Although a different breed, possibly. :)

We also have a Team Speak 3 Server. I'm not sure what the status is for public use yet, but most of us would be more than willing to talk on there (off frequency). Any word on the status of this for pilot use, KS?

Very late reply but i think it is a good idea feedback wise.
You would know what controllers were currently online so you can report any bad or amazing things that he/she has done.

This should however be a "members only" tool excluding people on the 2 week trial!

-Thanks!

Flight comms are recorded and if there is an issue you could simply follow up on the forums or in PM with PE staff, this is routinely done.

I think it was best said by the previous poster Vincent Meier...it is perfectly fine the way it is.

Even without the recordings, you can simply email ops@pilotedge.net with the date/time of anything you'd like to bring to our attention (good or bad). We know who was working any given shift at any given time.

With the idea that nobody deserves to be shamed in a public forum, I'm sure every controller and likely management would prefer that controller criticisms be handled via email to ops@pilotedge.net.
