Hello Guys,

I have no economical involvement with ORBX whatsoever...but the ORBX Global has been released like now...

I'm already downloading it, I can't wait. Take a look at the video below...it is fantastic.

Something else to pull me back towards FSX. This looks awesome.. and here I thought I'd decided X-Plane was the future! :(

Looks outstanding. I will say the night textures are still a far, far cry from what X-Plane delivers, but I will agree, those daytime shots were outstanding. I suspect they will survive the 'low flying' test, too, because they're not relying on satellite imagery. It looks as though they have generic land class textures (of super high quality) and great placement of 3d objects. That's the xplane model though FTX have taken it to another level with their art assets). This is the right approach IMHO and will slaughter traditional approaches of using satellite imagery draped over a terrain mesh, regardless of how good that mesh is.

It's an impressive looking product and it looks like really takes FSX to another level....night lighting aside ;)

Actually, I think the night lighting Orbx created is really quite good. Many are saying it has elevated FSX/P3D night lighting to X-Plane 10 quality. Agree or disagree, it's a heck of a lot better than default or even UTX lighting.

Oh, and I might be biased, but FTX Global looks even better in P3D. Maybe if Lockheed-Martin and Laminar Research joined forces....

Those night textures appear to be baked in to the scenery. In other words, it's a picture of a lamp on a lamp post, and a picture of the light that it casts over the ground. In X-Plane, it's a real light, and the lighting is generated in real time. That's why if a car drives underneath it, you see the light illuminating the roof of the car. It's why the headlights from the cars illuminate the road ahead of them, etc.

Those are nice night textures that they've put together, a step up, for sure, but comparing them to the XP10 engine is inaccurate, unless I'm missing something. There's a fundamental difference in what's going on there...and a well shot movie will show it. No argument, though, it's better than it was!
