[Dec 28, Sat 7:15pm PST] KLAS - KVCV (Focus Fields)

Post by Cyrus »

Aircraft Speed: ~140 kias
Flight Rules: VFR, with flight following
Route/Altitude: open to suggestions (feel free to post SkyVector full route links on here)

I'll be aiming to depart LAS between 7:15pm and 7:30pm PST (10:15 and 10:30pm EST). I'll be flying in the Baron 58 Twin, but only at 130-140kts. Would suggest that single engine props should head out first.

We could use the web-based IRC chat room for initial discussion on the ramp as LAS.

Hope to see you there.

Great Matt.

For the route, I was thinking something like this, at 8500.

I'm not sure if there's a lateral separation requirement to fly through the mountain pass (near WHIGG intersection), but it would be fun to follow I-15 out of the Vegas basin and up towards this pass (especially for those of us that know this drive pretty well).

Then it's just a matter of staying south of I-15 by keeping it out of the right window. If we get lost, we can just head towards Hector VOR.

From Hector, starting the descent, we'll probably need to hop on V12 towards KVCV (and turn left at BASAL, i.e. about 2 minutes after we pass KDAG to the north, or just stay west on V12), in order to avoid the "towers" at 6309 ft.

Finally, we'll aim for a pattern alitutde at VCV of just under 4000ft. It's a class Delta, but if we take Fight Following, presumably LA Center will hand us off to KVCV Tower at some point (or we make sure to request it).

Of course, I'm totally open to any other suggestions.

Great flight. Thank you to all who joined, and to Keith for keeping his cool with us while holding, waiting, circling, rinsing and repeating at KLAS while we got going.

Oh, and here's a small souvenir for you...

I call this one, "Three Targets Acquired, Sir. Shall I Take Them Down?"

Was a ton of fun. At times I had 4 chances to pick up missed instructions because routing and speeds were so similar.....lol
