Louis Zamperini, the World War II veteran whom the Torrance Airport (KTOA) is named after passed away on July 2nd at the age of 97. For those who haven't heard of Mr. Zamperini, he was an Olympic runner who joined the Air Corp during WWII wanting to be a pilot. He didn't make it as a pilot, but later returned to the air as a bombardier on B-24s in the Pacific. He survived a Japanese POW camp and returned to the states following the war. The airport was named after he returned to his hometown of Torrance, CA. His story was told in the book Unbroken, which is being made into a movie scheduled to be released this Christmas.
Happy 4th of July to everyone and thank you to all those who fought for our freedom!

Re: Louis Zamperini (KTOA)
Thanks for posting, Scott. I read the book last year, it was just incredible what he went through.
