Got in my first flight this afternoon. KHMT to KSAN (PDZ V186 HAILE V66 MZB), IFR. Real weather (XP10) turned out to be gorgeous on the trip down; SkyVector was reporting MVFR at SAN, so I took the initiative to file IFR. Took a bit getting the sim set up for PE (push to talk assignment and other differences from VATSIM). That made me nervous enough to be a hazard. ATC diverted me off the filed route, which I appreciated, as it cut a few corners and got me into KSAN that much quicker. First change was vectors to intercept V186, which I managed to overfly. ATC caught it just after I started to correct. The nerves really came out, and I managed to bungle just about every heading assignment from that point on.
ATC was extremely patient, repeating themselves as necessary and easing my frazzled nerves. I suppose it helped that the weather was gorgeous getting into KSAN, too, so I could get visual confirmation that I was flying the localizer approach into RWY 27 correctly. Getting that kind of response from ATC was really nice.
I'll definitely be sticking around. It's worth the monthly subscription.
