demo of failures and custom ATC

Post by Keith Smith »

Testing the system failure and custom ATC mechanisms this weekend with one of the PE regulars (helipilot07). He had no idea these were coming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj17kAnYKRI

Here are the timestamps:
16:43 co-pilot ASI failure
20:41 right engine fuel pump
23:10 engine restarted
28:15 right generator failure
28:44 noticed co-pilot ASI failure
36:40 right flap actuator noticed
38:46 go-around issued due to stalled ops vehicle on runway

These failures were triggered from the ATC scope and the go-around was requested by an instructor, then issued by ATC. Those are commercial features for now.

That's an awesome video. Makes me curious if the couple of engine "glitches" I have had were manufactured :)

Great video.

Pilot was really calm...I learned a lot from this and I am not sure how he is so proficient after losing his TrackIR....lol

Ok so now Im curious!

Have I been getting messed with? Keith? Peter? Bueller? Anyone?

I was flying today IMC SAN-HMT 2485H and had a dual attitude indicator failure. Absolutely great failure as I did not intend to set failures for the flight, and was zoomed to just panel for "IMC."

Also weird due to vacuum gauge reading well, but bother attitude indicators frozen level, but with HSI still operative.

Partial panel skills were exercised. If its engineered on the PE end, I thank you for the free service! At end of flight my failures indicated my attitude indicator system had failed.

I did not intentionally set the failure. I did, however, open the tab to make sure my failures were all reset before flight. I guess I could have accidently clicked something.

In any event it was great experience! Had to share.

I love it... PE's first real conspiracy theory

That's it. No more talk of X-Plane for me....

Nope, the controllers (including myself) do not have the training to actually use this feature yet. Only Keith can do it and I imagine he isn't regularly picking random people to mess with.

HA ok, well I must have clicked a failure option by accident. Conspiracy put to rest......for now. :D

No way. Think about it. That's exactly what we would have expected Peter to say ;)

Eric, check if you have random failures turned on in xplane, and check the MTBF. I haven't failed anything on you that I recall.
