Is anyone using either the Ipad Foreflight or Skycharts with x-plane?
i have read that skycharts can be connected to x-plane and Both Ipad Apps
can use the same external gps units, bad elf and XGPS150. The Foreflight
moving map and geo-referenced plates would be a complete gee whiz factor.

Re: Ipad ForeFlight/SkyCharts
Steve, I'm using ForeFlight every time I fly in PE. I'm not worried about the moving-map aspects (which are nice in real life, of course) but predominantly use it for the approach plates, taxi diagrams, and frequency info.
It's a complex app. There's no question that using it in the sim was a great way for me to acclimate for its use in the cockpit.

I am pretty much exactly the same position as Chris. Great app, couldn't imagine flying without it now, either in sim or real life...!

Thanks for the great information C.B and Tim. are you using the internal gps or an external one?
Looks like I will be getting an Ipad with a yoke mount.

For now just the internal GPS. But if I were using the geo-referenced plates option, there's no question I'd opt for one of those $99 external GPS modules.steve.huff wrote:Thanks for the great information C.B and Tim. are you using the internal gps or an external one?

Gentlemen,
I just bought Foreflight.
Would you mind explain a bit how it can be used with X-Plane so see plane moving over the map?
Application itself is great but lack of moving map is a big minus.
I know, it is designed for real life flying but maybe there is a way to make it working in X-Plane.
Thank you.
Andrzej

Re: Ipad ForeFlight/SkyCharts
One of the things I like about x-plane is the large number of configurations that are available. including using actual aircraft hardware or gps units.
for skyCharts http://www.skycharts.net/?page_id=228
this should send a raw set of coordinates to the Ipad device. I haven't tried this myself so your mileage may vary.

Re: Ipad ForeFlight/SkyCharts
I have neither app. please see my first post. if both apps can use the same external gps units with zero configuration.
there may be some configuration option within Foreflight for it to use coordinates. But my guess would be that it will work with little or no configuration.
i am going to get an ipad myself and try it.

I will check out Forums for your input after you get the Ipad and try it.
