I just tried a simple IFR flight plan but got asked about my equipment suffix?
This is for the Carenado Stationair, would also like the same fro the Carenado King Air.
I looked around and the variables are daunting, I think I have but I am sure I don't.
Also how do I include the suffix when filing an IFR plan?
I got the clearance but the plan was changed slightly and I flustered with the read back...will attempt again later but just wanted to clear up the equipment suffix stuff first.
Thanks.
PS...the plan was KSNA-KSBA >>> SLI HERMO LAX SADDE VTU KWANG
I have flown this a couple of times and am comfortable with Nav side, just need to get past this ATC block I have.

Re: Equipment suffix
The equipment suffix denote what the TYPE of navigation equipment that YOUR airplane has.
For example some Cessna's may have a glass G1000 cockpit. In this case the suffix would be slant G (/G).
If your airplane has a steam gauge VOR 6 pack with DME (Distance measurement Equipment), this wild be slant Alpha (/A).
To include the equipment suffix, simply add the slant code after the ICOA Aircraft code. For example when I fly the Barron 58 using only VOR's, it's BE58/A.
There are different codes if your airplane doesn't have DME or transponder type.
So what navigation equipment does your airplane have? DME? Mode C transponer? GPS?
For the CT206H STATIONAIR HD SERIES I suspect it's either /A or /G depending if you want to use the GPS or not.

Re: Equipment suffix
To clarify what burns said, you can have a six pack and be a /G. And you can have a G1000 and be a /A
You can find all the codes with the associated equipment here.

Re: Equipment suffix
The RNAV stuff was confusing me, been reading more sine I posted and I think i have it now.
My Cessna has a GNS430 so it can be /G but I plan on flying by VOR/DME so I will use /A
..and now I know how to add to flight plan.
Perfect..thanks!

Re: Equipment suffix
If filing VFR, I assume this info is not expected. But should I include it anyway? My Piper Archer has neither GPS nor autopilot, but it does have VOR and DME equipment. I usually write "no GPS, no autopilot" in my "comments," but perhaps I should just add /A?
Also, my callsign is N1701A. So if I ever do have to file an equipment suffix, it would be N1701A/A?

Re: Equipment suffix
Yes you still file the equipment suffix even under a VFR flight plan.Geoff wrote:If filing VFR, I assume this info is not expected. But should I include it anyway? Re: Equipment suffix
The equipment suffix is after the ICAO code for the airplane. Not the call sign.Geoff wrote:Also, my callsign is N1701A. So if I ever do have to file an equipment suffix, it would be N1701A/A?
For example,
N1701A is type P28A slant Alpha ........

EDIT. corrected ICAO code to remove any confusion.

Re: Equipment suffix
Turns out having the proper suffix code helps with asking for IFR clearance...no changes to my plan as filed this time.
Just had a pretty decent flight with only minor mistakes...until I taxied down the wrong taxiway after landing.

Re: Equipment suffix
The ICAO code for Archers, Warriors, and most Cherokees is P28A not PA28. The thread you linked to talks about that, and you were probably aware of it even as your traitorous fingers typed PA28, but I figured I'd try and clear it up.wmburns wrote: For example,
