GNS530 turning point too early

Post by ianbennett »

Hi,

I fly a King Air B200 with a GNS530.

My issue is that the turning point when reaching a waypoint is too early. when the autopilot is on GPS and follows the GNS magenta line.
when the aircarft gets to the turning point it turns to sharp and therefor needs to turn back to get back on to the magneta line of the next course.
for exemple if my gps need my aircraft to turn left:
the aircraft turns left at the turning point then turns rights then left then rights ... until it gets back to the magenta line of the next course

I need to ajust the turing point so that the gps uses a smaller turning radius.

Is there a way to set up this turning radius ?

Thanks

I'm assuming you meant turning too late? I'm assuming the Carenado B200 with the default XP 10 GPS? If thats the case, then there's no easy solution, thats coded into the AP of the aircraft. A way to circumvent that would be to use the "activate leg" button to lead the turn a bit. There's no specific way to set a turn "radius".

Moved to the Pilot forum. This was originally posted in the Workshops forum for reasons that elude me.

Most GPS units assume a standard rate turn when doing turn lead. I'd make sure you are actually doing a standard rate turn when turning from course to course, if you are and it's still off, then it's a GPS issue. I don't think you can adjust the turn radius in any GPS unit.

If you're using P3D or FSX, look at the aircraft.cfg file for your particular plane.

Check the [autopilot] section and look for the "max_bank" parameter. If set too high, the autopilot will give more than a standard-rate turn at normal airspeeds. I've had to lower it on some planes.

The max_bank_acceleration and max_bank_velocity may also provide other ways to modify the autopilot turns.

What specific aircraft is this? Flight1 BE20? Carenado? XP10 what?

Hi,

I am using X-plane with the Carendo BE20 and the reality XP GNS530. I have tryed ajusting the autopilot stability in the plane marker but cannot get the autopilot to beome stable and not turn right and left to find its new position.

Is the ground speed as reported by the Reality XP GNS530 accurate? Since ground speed is part of the turn anticipation logic, I could see a case that if the ground speed were incorrect, then the turn anticipation logic would be incorrect as well.

Is the Reality XP GNS530 running on the same PC or different PC? Does the plane's current location as reported by GPS match the plane's location as shown on the X-plane screen? Are they "in sync"?
