Some Noob Ques

Post by CrackerJack »

I have a few questions please. I'm quite interested in PE and was curious how weather is handled. What defines the weather state, the local sim setup or the PE server? Not sure if my question is technically correct but I hope the intent of my question is. For example I run ASN and P3D and if I wanted to practice IFR at an airport that had IMC would I be able to do this?

It seems from my quick look that the majority of the AC flown are single/multi prop. I realize the area covered by PE is limiting for a 737 for example but is there any restrictions on AC types. I'm flying the 737 NGX and also have the 172. I would appreciate a little more insight on the AC side.

Cheers!

Pilotedge does not dictate the weather. If you are running something other than real world weather, let the controller know and they will usually accommodate your requests.

You can fly anything that really flies. There are plenty of opportunities to fly the B737. You just have to get creative. You won't have as much of the do nothing time (sitting in cruise for hours) but that's the boring part anyway right? There are a couple handfuls of airports in the service area than can accommodate a B737 so have fun with it!

there are actually tons of 737-friendly airports, but many of them are close together. you'll typically operate to/from a city pair involving either sfo or las on one end.

the airspace will be expanding to accommodate more 737 ops in the coming months.

Almost all the controlled fields are "jet-friendly", but as mentioned above, very little cruise time. In the 732, you're tuning VORs or dialing in frequencies almost non-stop (though it gets more streamlined the more you fly). Some airports include:

KLAS, KLAX, KSNA, KPSP, KSFO (soon to be relegated to "rotational" status - see this link *I'll edit it in ;) * for details), KSAN, KRIV, KONT, KLGB, KGCN, KSBA, etc...

If you go to PEAware and enter TPX (or, alternatively, a regular airline identifier [UAL, DAL, FDX, JBU, etc...], you'll also get some routes) into the airline identifier, you'll see a few (but not all) of the possible jet routes. For the GA stuff, the Training Ratings are educational and surprisingly fun (and addictive...) - *cough* new V-Ratings coming "soon" *cough*. Like Marcus said, weather is client-side, though I think the controllers would generally appreciate it if you didn't change the winds (clouds, precipitation, etc... is all up to you) so that you can accept certain runways for traffic flows (though if you're training, I doubt most* of them would mind).

*certain controllers can be grumpy on some (most) days :D

Nelson, why are you saying that sfo is moving to rotational status?

Whoops, got crossed up on "new service area" vs "rotational airports"

I need to stop randomly posting after midnight...
