XPlane Crash

Post by sellener777 »

This may not be the best place to ask this question, but I will......

Ive had two major computer crashes while flying using xplane. Its a random crash to bluescreen with loud buzzing coming from speakers only solvable buy restart......and another that crashes to black screen with loud buzzing from speakers that requires restart.

Windows 7
Xplane

Wondered if someone could point me in right direction as to trying and figuring it out? Software scan stuff to run, finding some dump? file somewhere that may have clues? ect.......

Ive looked at some other forums and the language is above my knowledge level for the most part.

Thanks

First suspect for me would be overheating. I would get a CPU/GPU temperature monitoring program and see what's going on.

Is your power supply up to the task? This kind of crash could be due to inadequate power on one of the rails (or any of 100 other things). Also, are you overclocking CPU or GPU? If so, set back to stock and see if the problem persists.

+1 on checking CPU/GPU temperatures.

Are you running the latest GPU drivers? Are you running the latest X-Plane update?

Not a bad idea to post the X-plane log file.

Do you have another PC to test with? One of the advantages of X-Plane is that it's soooooooo easy to move from PC to PC.

What I have done in the past is to copy the entire X-Plane directory to an external drive and then move to a different PC.

Another option is to do a fresh install on a different PC. This option makes more sense IF there's a ton of add-on packages or 3rd party apps. In the end, you may have to re-create the problem with the stock X-Plane in order to rule in/out any add-on packages.

Note, Normally X-Plane is very stable. However, I have had X-Plane crash to desktop (CTD) when there were hard disk errors in the X-Plane directory. Try running a full disk scan to rule out.

What's the error code on the BSoD? This likely isn't an issue with X-Plane. More likely a hardware issue that X-Plane is exacerbating.

Just wondering if you were running any other applications at the time. I sometimes have problems IF the Pilotedge Receiver is running at the same time as X-Plane (flying offline). My experience has been highly variable. Sometimes the CPU will "loop" almost immediately. Other times it will run for quite a while before looping (CPU 100%, UI difficult to navigate).

I have basically gotten out of the habit of monitoring the PE receiver while offline flying with X-Plane.

I kind of "assumed" it had something to do with ASUS drivers but I don't know for certain. This problem did happen on my ASUS Q67 (Sandy Bridge) as well as the ASUS Z97 (Hasswell) mother boards.

Glad it's now working for you.

well I spoke to fast.....

Had another crash after the reinstall.

I wish I could reproduce it.

This time I had XP minimized with aircraft sitting at gate and was browsing in chrome. Chrome couldnt open a web page and gave me a "oh snap," error something about not having enough memory or something and immediately crashed to black screen with loud buzzing again.

I think this was the first time it crashed when I wasnt actively flying in XP though. Not that that makes a difference.

Oh, and usually no other applications running other then browser. I literally only use the computer for XP which makes the whole thing even more frustrating.

Regards to the BSoD.......It doesnt crash to an error code on crash to black screen. Computer freezes, loud buzzing starts, and screen goes black no error code. Resolved only by poweroff/on.

Only option I see is start replacing parts on the computer until its a new computer or throw it out and get a new one.

I love XP and Pilotedge and I hate computers ahahahahahahh
