Weather and pilot edge basic question

Post by pkofman »

I have looked through the forums but this is still not clear to me, I have a basic weather question that I'm sure a PE guru can answer instantly

I fly with FSX and P3D . When flying online i want to be sure to sync my wx with the weather that the controllers are using
Do I simply use a client such as ASN ,OPUS or the internal fsx engine ,etc and set the real world weather
Is this what the controllers are using at any given time
Further are all of the PE ratings assuming that i am using a "real world weather client" with then then current weather or something else.

Just want to be in sync with the system and controllers.
I note in the PE client that "weather feature is not yet implemented"

These are my questions and i would appreciate some advice on the best weather methodology while flying on PE and when taking a rating

Thank you

Peter

I can't say much for your sim about syncing wx. I use X-Plane and there is a built in feature called "use real world Wx" and you can have it update every (x) min. The controllers are using "real world" weather.

As for the pilot ratings, if you are doing a VFR rating and the weather is currently IMC, the controller might assume you are using custom VFR weather but you are likely to just be asked if you are and will be given instructions accordingly.

(Report you have information "Zulu" as an ATIS update and the controller will know you have custom weather)

Thank you very much Kyle . This was the exact info I needed
"Controllers are using "real world "weather""
I can basically use real world weather with any client to be sure things are in sync

As a PE controller, informing me with information Zulu does not tell me you are using custom weather, just that you took time to gather the airport information. Putting "custom weather" or similar in your remarks or even telling me over the air, "I'm using custom weather" does.

Thanks for answering this Marcus
What sources do you use for your PE aviation weather and I can point my client to the same source.

Pete:

I've used the custom weather check-in when calling ground for taxi a few times early on. You would generally get asked what specifics and why so the controllers can help you. PilotEdge uses NOAA weather, but the update cycle on the PE side is not sync'd in any way with your client or sim, so if there's a big discrepancy you'd want to let them know.

Just say you've "got the numbers" when taxiing or calling approach.
