X-Plane + FltPlan iPad + Traffic?

Post by stevekirks »

I hooked the iPad into X-Plane tonight using FltPlan (free from the App Store) and I was able to have it correctly display charts and my location from the sim. Has anyone here using it had traffic show up also? I've tried the obvious things like entering the iPad's IP address next to the items I checked and also creating a "custom" ADS-B source within the FltPlan app with the name "xp" and the port of 49000.

Anyone have any clever ideas?

Are you asking how to get PE traffic into that app? The only traffic capability we have is sending a ForeFlight-compatible traffic stream to ForeFlight.

That was the question. FltPlan Go has ways to hook into real ADS-B devices, and when you add a "custom" device in the app it asks for a device name and port number. Any idea what port the ForeFlight-compatible data is being sent on?

For those folks reading this:

* FltPlan Go is free and is on iOS and Android. My experience is with the iOS version on an old iPad 2 with WiFi
* It has all of the VFR and IFR charts like Skyvector uses.
* It has airport diagrams and approach procedures that are current.
* It has a moving map to show you where you are on the chart
* If you have a flight plan entered, it will show that on the chart in relation to your current position.

I would suggest that all X-Plane users get this app and use it when you can. It makes it easier to be airspace-aware, even when the aircraft in the sim has the X-Plane GPS installed. Now I'm considering a Foreflight subscription to get traffic, but this free app works just fine.

For the FSX users that stumble across this: I can't get the companion app running on Windows 10, the app that sends data from FSX to FltPlan Go, but it seems to have worked for others on older OSes in the past.

Hi there,

i'm using foreflight - especially the pre- and inflight aspects are great - with the pro-version highly recommended for IFR training. The downside is, US and Canadian maps only.

Could anyone confirm traffic beeing shown with the recent foreflight version? I was trying today but had no traffic, or is this restricted when outside the trial period?

Best,

UPDATE: ok, forget my post, it's described at the installation page, e.g. https://www.pilotedge.net/pages/downloa ... are-xplane
