This was started by a PE customer not long ago, be sure to check them out! They have instructor-led study groups on all sorts of VFR ground school topics. Check them out at http://privatepilotstudy.com
I'll be there tonight (Apr 26) at 6pm PDT (9pm EDT) leading a study session on Airport Operations and ATC Radio Communications.

They're really simple. You sign up for the mailing list at www.privatepilotstudy.com (you can unsubscribe any time), and the morning of each session you'll get a link to either participate, or join as a viewer. It's all in a Google Hangout, archive here: http://www.privatepilotstudy.com/archive. Participants are on camera and on mic, viewers can ask questions via a Q&A app but they're otherwise anonymous. We get around 10-25 people each session.
Sessions are every Sunday at 3pm PDT, and Tuesday at 6pm PDT. Tonight's session is hosted by Keith Smith, the founder of PilotEdge, and it's on airport operations. He's pretty much the best person I can think of to give us a walkthrough of that.
At a broader scale, the idea is if you join at any point, and stick around for ten weeks, you'll go through all the material in a PPL. It's not a complete online ground school, just a refresher or a complement to a more formal course.
From a business standpoint, right now there's no money in it for anyone, but the ultimate goal is to have students be able to hire instructors privately for online 1:1 tuition. But the group sessions will stay free.

Sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
For those folks (like me) that just signed up for the mailing list today, you will not get emailed the link to join as a viewer for tonight's session. I found it here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/flying/comment ... atc_study/
The link to the study session is on that page.
Or you can access it through the reddit link at the bottom of the privatepilotstudy.com website.

Very informative and fun. Keith was overflowing with knowledge as always, and I got a question answered that has been rolling around unsolved for a while. My only wish for the next presentation is a bigger mouse pointer or a highlighter of some kind. With the relatively low resolution of the Hangout video it was tough to follow your pointer when you were illustrating taxi paths and such.

Thx David, I appreciate the feedback and agree completely that a bigger mouse pointer would've been better. If we run full PE workshops again, I'll be sure to do that.

I saw this thread and I was interested in monitoring this. However, looks like I missed the boat.
I check the forums often. I guess not often enough.
Was it recorded and is it going to be posted?
PS more PE workshops. I really enjoyed these all so long ago......

yes, privatepilotstudy has an archives section, I assume it will be posted there.
I'll be doing a follow-on presentation there covering ATC communications as there wasn't time to cover all the material. We got through Airport Operations and then stopped.
It's likely I'll do this as a formal PE workshop, too (separately to the privatepiltostudy event).

Great job Keith. Somehow, I'd never heard of this site before yesterday but it seems like a really great idea.
For progressive taxi at a non-towered airport, I'd (not) suggest "Any traffic in the area, please advise how to get to the runway." You'd get a response, I bet. But seriously, I agree about progressive taxi in general. If you're truly lost or confused or need clarification of an instruction, by all means ask for help. But using it by default, in my opinion, indicates a lack of preparation. It's a little like putting "No SIDs" on a flight plan when you have access to the charts and are capable of flying them.

Keith,
One of the Twitch streamers, aerosimgaming, was using this tool tonight, and I thought it might be worth a look for your presentation efforts.

Thanks David, I do have screen highlighting tools that I've used in the past, I just didn't use them in this presentation.
